Slope Monitoring at Snoqualmie Pass
Project
Rockslides and snow avalanches at Snoqualmie pass have caused frequent closures of I-90, so State and Federal agencies embarked on an avalanche bypass project.
Monitoring Requirements
WSDOT needed instrumentation for steep slopes directly above a work area. GEO installed 22 instrumented rock dowels. An AMTS system was also installed.
Power & Communications
Solar-powered loggers relay measurements by radio to a base station located at the top of the pass. There, a cell modem relayed the data to the web and the Washington DOT.
